Welcome to the April edition of the seoplus+ Digital Digest. This month, AI is shaking up social media, UX design is being redefined, and Google is making a $23B cybersecurity power move. Let’s dive in.

Struggling to find the right words on Instagram? Meta’s AI has you covered!

Have you ever found yourself at a loss for words when commenting on an Instagram post? Meta is stepping in to help.

This latest tool uses AI to scan images—including facial expressions—and suggests captions or comments tailored to the content. Sounds like a win for engagement, right? Maybe. Critics worry it could dilute the creativity and authenticity that make social media interactions feel real.

“The comment section is often where the most interesting and entertaining engagement happens on social media. Relying on AI-generated responses could take away some of that creativity.”

— Austin Perron, Digital Marketing Team Lead at seoplus+

So, what’s your take—will AI-generated comments boost interaction or flatten the fun?

Ongoing Google Algorithm Changes

If you’re in the SEO space, you may have noticed that Google has rolled out a new core algorithm update. The update started rolling out on March 13th and completed on March 27th, spanning approximately two weeks.

During the rollout, it’s normal to see fluctuations in rankings and traffic. If you have any questions about your SEO performance in relation to this core update, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Duolingo just ghosted UX design – should we all?

In a bold move that’s stirred up the design world, Duolingo dropped “UX Design” from its job titles, replacing it with “Product Designer.” Their reasoning? Every designer should already be thinking about user experience—so why call it out? However, this decision has sparked debate over whether it clarifies roles or risks diminishing the focus on user needs.

“Reframing UX as ‘Product Experience’ might make sense for Duolingo’s internal culture, but it raises a bigger question: Does this shift actually add clarity, or does it risk diluting the focus on user needs? UX has always included product experience, so renaming it feels like an attempt to frame experience through the product’s lens rather than the user’s. But is a product’s experience truly meaningful if it’s not rooted in the user’s journey? While this may work for Duolingo, it could add more confusion to an industry already debating its own terminologies.” — Brandon Telford, Web Design Manager at seoplus+

Google’s $23B cybersecurity power move

Google is making a bold statement in cybersecurity with its $23 billion acquisition of Wiz, a leading cloud security startup. This marks one of the company’s largest investments in cybersecurity to date. The message? Google’s all-in on locking down the cloud.

As AI models process vast amounts of sensitive data, the risk of cyber threats continues to grow. By bringing Wiz’s AI-driven threat detection into the fold, Google is fortifying its defences and doubling down on trust and security across Google Cloud.

With competition heating up in AI and cloud computing, this strategic move positions Google to better compete with AWS and Microsoft Azure.

Stay ahead of the curve

From AI-generated Instagram comments to industry-defining cybersecurity investments, the digital landscape is rewriting the rules faster than ever. To stay competitive, businesses must embrace these changes by rethinking engagement strategies, prioritizing UX, or fortifying cloud security.
